Perhaps my last USA road trip in a little while. This time with W for one last hurrah.
We left on a Monday thinking traffic would be smooth, that was until we hit the border and realized it was Presidents Day. A 5.5h drive became 7.5h drive , ouch .
This is my first time staying at Airbnb and its been great! For $40/night we have a cute room with our own washroom and private entrance in a quaint neighbourhood. A steal for this area.
As we were staying in the Hawthorne area we had dinner and then went to a local pub to sample portland famous beers. There also happened to be trivia night; me and W failed at this as we knew nothing about USA politics or basketball… So we fled the scene 🙂
Portland actually doesn’t have a whole lot of tourist attractions as it isn’t too big. Nothing like San Francisco. However the city itself has enough to do for a day walking along the downtown, Pearl and other districts. Also having no sales tax is a huge refreshing change.
A mean meat sandwich on 34th st:
A rare sunny day in Portland winter
We walked past the food trucks but wasn’t tempted to try them out as there is now an abundance of them in Vancouver.
A cool looker bar restaurant at the Pearl district.
On our 2nd full day we went… Shopping! At the outlet! Won’t blog about that but afterwards we went to the Deschutes Brewery an had a decent Pale Ale and IPA. Sigh. Beer at bars/pubs are so much cheaper here…
And we ended the day strolling about Powell Bookstore, a huge bookstore of old and new books that puts Chapters to shame.
All their brews:
On our drive home we were sure to pick up some Voodoo Donuts!
