A compilation of Climbing Spots in China. This list is not exhaustive, but it is where I have found topos of on various Chinese websites.
Climbing spots I have been:
China– A huge country with lots of potential. Some access and language issues.
Shigu: Close to Lijiang. New area. 150+routes
Qingyuan: Close to Guangzhou. Will need to hire transport to get to crags. Access issues and development of land has closed some crags. 50+routes
Yangshuo: Largest sport climbing with many crags. 400+ routes. Minimal access issues and need minimal Chinese to get around.
Hong Kong– A huge metropolis with a variety of climbing on mostly granite, single pitch route. 200+ routes. Check out http://www.hongkongclimbing.com
Malaysia – A hot and humid country
Kuala Lumpur: Batu Caves which is close to the city and can be access using public transport. Guide book is out of print. 4-5 crags but some are not maintained. Lots of mosquito but nice limestone climbing. 80+ routes
Thailand- A beautiful country with lots of climbing
Chiang Mai: Crazy Horse Buttress. Less busy than Krabi/Railay but lots of wasps. 150+routes.
Ko Yao Noi: Access by longtail (boat) only. Crags are spread out. 100+ routes.
Krabi/Railay: No need for introduction. A climbing paradise but routes getting polished. All routes within walking distance. 600+ routes
Taiwan-A friendly country with lots to do.
Long Dong: Access by public transport or car. Sea cliff with Trad and Sports Climb. Many routes but many require re-bolting due to corrosion by proximity to ocean. Check which routes are Titanium bolted before climbing.
Spain: So much climbing. Good food, good wine. This is heaven.
El Chorro: Famous climbing area with lots and lots of routes on limestone. 1000+routes.
Tarifa: San Bartolo crag is protected mostly from the crazy wind. Sandstone, short single pitch and easy access. 100+ routes.
Jaen: Reguchillo crag is single pitch long un-polished limestone. Very nice and few people. There is even more climbing beneath the fortress in town. 150+ routes.
Canada: A huge country. You need a car.
Squamish, BC: Lots of Trad, Big Wall, Bouldering and Sports climbing. World famous. It rains a lot. 1000+ routes.
Vancouver, BC: Scully’s Hangout in Lynn Valley North Vancouver has some nice vertical easy climbs close to city. 20+ routes
Banff, AB: Lots of Ice, Trad, Alpine, Sports. 400+ routes.
USA: Also a huge country. Climbing almost everywhere.
